Absent Moon

Maelin

Also known as Tideglass guest steward · Sky-garden keeper

Tideglass Sanctuary's guest steward and sky-garden keeper, responsible for its hospitality, paired observation sites, and current field calibration.

Maelin is the first person to show the Unlocated Guest that knowledge on Veyra is not merely possessed. It is maintained, situated, and sometimes shared only after its limits are understood.

Guest steward and sky-garden keeper

Maelin cares for Tideglass Sanctuary as both a guest place and a working ecological observatory. They attend to rooms, gardens, changing light, flowering cycles, and the observation system used to forecast how twilight and Moon-field exposure will affect the terraces.

Their work joins forms of care that another society might separate: hospitality, ecological maintenance, instrument calibration, and the patient interpretation of change.

Authority through responsibility

Maelin signed Tideglass's current calibration and is accountable for the instruments kept there. Their authority comes from maintained knowledge and named responsibility, not from claiming private ownership over every object or observation.

They teach the Field Lens through its ordinary garden use before lending it. Access to the older Paired Skyplate is likewise consented and contextual. A record can be public in importance without becoming context-free property.

A disciplined position

Maelin accepts that the Moon discrepancy is real. They do not accept the hurried step from structured to intentional, or from an unexplained measurement to a message, intelligence, or chosen theory.

This restraint is not indifference. Maelin takes the anomaly seriously enough to protect it from conclusions the evidence cannot yet carry. Their expertise gives the visitor boundaries, not an answer.

A guest relationship

To Maelin, the Unlocated Guest is a guest before they are an investigator. Trust grows through listening, calibration, respect for privacy, and care with what another person has maintained.

Maelin is not a tutorial oracle or keeper of a final secret. They are one informed human perspective—capable, sincere, limited, and willing to let a careful visitor encounter a contradiction for themselves.
