The Paired Skyplate is not treasure removed from a ruin. It remains in a working cradle, under named care, close to the observation sites that give its record meaning.
Evidence in place
The Paired Skyplate rests in a weather-protected cradle on the cabin terrace at Tideglass Sanctuary. It belongs to the same garden-light observation system as the separated mounts and remains close enough that their sightlines and ordinary purpose can still be understood.
With Maelin's informed consent, the visitor examines and records it in place. Custody is part of the evidence: the plate is maintained civic equipment, not loot waiting to be converted into private knowledge.
A layered record
The Skyplate carries observation layers, physical calibration marks, signed orientation references, and maintenance seals. Sliding the Field Lens across it separates the dated observation layer from the history of how the instrument was calibrated and cared for.
These features authenticate the plate as a preserved record with traceable handedness and provenance. They do not make its historical sky a present-day observation or a flawless image of the past.
The reversal
The older layer reports the same catalogued internal Moon branch examined in the modern Tideglass comparison—but displaced in the opposite direction. Both station calibrations are recorded as valid, and the account notes unusually dense Veilfall mist.
Mist is a recorded condition, not a demonstrated cause. The plate may preserve an environmental effect, a contextual transformation, an incomplete record, or an authentically mistaken historical observation. Its value is that the contradiction is specific enough to test.
The bounded deduction
The current paired readings show that observation site affects the recorded interior. The older reversal shows that site alone is insufficient. Together they reject the simplest model of the Absent Moon as one fixed distant image.
They do not establish intelligence, purpose, communication, a vanished physical moon, an artificial builder, or a final explanation. A strong deduction rules out what the evidence cannot support as carefully as what it can.
A question aimed toward Veilfall
Because dense Veilfall mist is attached to the older record, Veilfall becomes a fair comparison context rather than a declared solution. The next question is not whether the waterfall caused it, but which of the recorded conditions can be reproduced, separated, or eliminated.
The Skyplate therefore turns history into a future experiment. Its contradiction does not end the mystery; it gives the player a responsible reason to continue.
